Did you know, Mississippi is the only U.S. state without a statewide open container law that bans open alcoholic beverages for drivers or passengers in a motor vehicle!
Facts about drinking:
📍 Nationally, it is illegal to drive with a blood alcohol concentration (BAC) of .08 g/dL (grams of alcohol per deciliter) or higher, except in Utah, where the limit is .05 g/dL (who knew?)
🥃 A standard drink equals about 1/2 an ounce of alcohol (.54 ounces, to be exact), which is roughly equivalent to 1 shot of distilled spirits, a 5 oz. glass of wine, OR a 12oz. beer (less than you thought, right?)
💸 The average DUI costs $10,000 in attorney’s fees, fines, court costs, lost work time, higher insurance rates, etc.
⚰️ About 30% of all traffic crash fatalities in the United States involve drunk drivers
This Labor Day weekend, law enforcement will be on the lookout for impaired drivers. The best way to avoid meeting them and getting a DUI (or much worse!) is simple: Find another way home. If you're drinking, don't get behind the wheel!

Expect brief delays as motorcycles travel through Starkville for the 2026 Little Sturgis Motorcycle Rally Dinner Ride. Riders will leave Sturgis at 4:00 p.m. and arrive in Starkville around 4:20 p.m. – 4:30 p.m.
