I was curious what process led to the choice of 11 slices rather then 10 or 12.

I think I've figured it out. This is a 7.5 ounce package, which is also a rather peculiar amount. Buuuut.... if you calculate the weight per slice you'll notice that 12 slices would work out to just a hair over 8 ounces.

Theory: the cheese used to come in a 12 slices, 8 ounce package.

At some point they started packaging one less slice while continuing to charge the same price.

This is called "shrinkflation".

Does anyone happen to remember if 8 oz/12 slice was the previous norm?
