@_BarringtonII When I was a teen I couldn't stand it when someone called me that even if they were playing. As I became a woman I realized a lot of women say it to each other endearingly. I still don't like it & I don't use the term but I don't try to beat up everyone who calls me that anymore

@_BarringtonII Grew up in poverty. Alcoholic dad. Put myself through college (the 1st in my immediate fam to go). Worked 2 jobs while studying. Started a career in robotics/mechanical eng. during my last semester. Been there ever since & provide for myself & now I'm able to help my parents.

Our senior's the only 1 I've ever seen be able to do everything from the ground up by himself, including fabrication. He taught me a lot of what I know. Nothing is done @ our facility without a team.

Doesn't mean I can't make it in the field because some of my coworkers are physically stronger. I've survived 10yrs so far. If you ask me to pour concrete, then I would concede.

@MjHasenpfeffer @Fabiana29925 @btsAO3fic_rec @engineers_feed I've also discovered that I might need to ask a man to help me lift something heavy because I'm small but, all of my male coworkers come to me when their robots need troubleshooting. All of us bring something different to the table. They bring the 💪 I bring the 🧠.

All of them had 20 or less students graduate in the engineering fields. If the op wants to be in the field she should do it & not allow others to discourage her. It's hard work for everyone.

@Fabiana29925 @btsAO3fic_rec @engineers_feed If it's what you really want to do then do it! The 7 of us who graduated worked very hard & collectively. The others dropped out, changed majors, or failed because it was more work than they anticipated. I was the only woman in my class to graduate. Anything is possible!

@Fabiana29925 @btsAO3fic_rec @engineers_feed I was told smthng similar by a Dean @ the college I went to. He told me women don't usually succeed in engineering. I told him to sign me up & watch me succeed. After I did, I realized a majority of men don't succeed in it either. Of the 57 students in my class 7 of us graduated.

@Kris24Catch @angelsforlove @IsabellaMDeLuca I work with all men. The older ones sometimes struggle with certain physical aspects of our job. I will stop whatever I'm doing to help. To me, they are still valuable in other areas. I'm petite & sometimes I have to ask them for assistance, as well.

@IsabellaMDeLuca About 95% of the men who wind up in-between me & a door, hold the door open for me. I always thank them. I appreciate chivalry. I, too, hold the door for others. Kindness is still alive in some of us.

@DylanSpina61 Agree. I drive by one at 5am every morning when they're starting to open. I can smell the grease a block before I reach it & it smells awful 🤢
