Most of the action today will be across Central GA (in the vicinity of and south of a frontal boundary). Instances of localized flash flooding will be the main concern through the afternoon in this area.
Cooler, cloudy and lower rain chances for North GA.

We have a threat for severe storms this afternoon and evening. Damaging wind gusts and flash flooding are the main concerns, I'll be tracking the storms live on Channel 2.
⚠️Severe weather threat through the evening!⚠️
Showers and storms will continue to develop across the area through the evening hours. A few storms may become severe, capable of producing damaging wind gusts and small hail. A brief tornado cannot be ruled out in N GA. #gawx
Morning update: the severe storm threat has expanded to include more of North Georgia, mainly this evening. Damaging wind gusts are the main threat, an isolated tornado is possible. I'll be tracking the storms live on Channel 2.
A stormy Saturday expected!
Widespread storms will be in place today into tonight across the Southeast. I am watching tomorrow more for a stronger storm risk across Georgia & the Carolinas. Currently, the marginal risk (darker green) is in place for a large section of GA & a portion of SC, but I expect this area to be dragged more into South Carolina in later updates. A weak shortwave will add a punch to these storms tomorrow afternoon into the evening. They will come out of Georgia. You will likely hear & see these coming. Timing with the HRRR below.
Atlanta has been bone dry for past several weeks with the growing season -- and my grass -- in terrible drought conditions.
Thankfully, thunderstorms w/heavy rain have popped up. Highs were in upper-80s to around 90°F so plenty of instability w/humidity.
Radar: 4:20 PM ET
5/17, 340p: Scattered storms are developing across the area and will continue into the evening.
While frequent lightning & small hail is possible even in the sub-severe storms, the strongest storms could become severe and produce quarter-sized hail and strong wind gusts. #gawx
