I classified more than 300 stars in the stellar spectra, created the scheme for naming stars which was then adopted by many astronomers who then used it to classify over 225,000 other stars, and created the "Hertzsprung-Russell diagram.

I was born December 11, 1863 in Dover, Delaware and was one of the first women to attend college. I have discovered more than 300 stars on the photographic plates. I died on April 13, 1941.
