How can we make cities more livable and inclusive? Improving health equity is a great thing to start with!
In the context of this year’s annual World Economic Forum, the @wef Centre for Urban Transformation has curated a collection of perspectives on city life and urbanization.
@AnnAertsNF, Head of the Novartis Foundation, has teamed up with Diana Rodriguez Franco, Former Secretary of Women’s Affairs for the City of Bogotá, Colombia, to share two views on how we can turn our cities’ perceived shortfalls in great assets to drive population health at scale. One of them leans on tech and AI, and the other challenges our fundamental assumptions of city architecture.

Translating insights into impact! 📈 🎯
We've just wrapped up on the first convening of the #AI4HealthyCities Global Expert Council in New York City, co-chaired by Michelle Williams, Joan and Julius Jacobson Professor of Epidemiology and Public Health, Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health and Ann Aerts, Head of the Novartis Foundation.
The Expert Council will support us in unleashing the full potential of our population health initiative AI4HealthyCities, a global program founded by the Novartis Foundation and @MicrosoftAI, using existing data from health and health-influencing sectors to identify the leading determinants of cardiovascular health outcomes and inequities in cities such as New York City, Singapore, Basel, and Helsinki.
In AI4HealthyCities, we analyze data from all possible sources, from administrative data to survey data to literature reviews to selected data collection. The Expert Council plays a crucial role in reviewing insights from different data types, evaluate potential differences, and guide additional analytics, in addition to providing us with advice on how best to translate insights into action. Ultimately, we are workings towards the creation and handover of decision-making tools for policymakers, health system managers and civil society.

🏆 We are thrilled to share that The HealthTech Hub Africa (HTHA) has clinched the prestigious 2023 P3 Impact Award, recognizing their exceptional efforts in revolutionizing healthcare across the African continent.
HTHA is a dynamic cross-sector partnership uniting the @NovartisFDN, the @PJMFnd, the @GlobalFund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis, and Malaria, @Bridge4Billions, the @Norrsken_org, and the @c4ir_rw.
At the heart of this achievement is HTHA's commitment to fostering meaningful collaborations between governments and start-ups to drive forward data and technology-enabled innovations in African healthcare.
What truly sets HTHA apart is its dual mission – supporting both entrepreneurs and governments, all working towards the shared goal of advancing health equity.
HTHA's remarkable work includes a comprehensive ten-month innovation and investment readiness program for health tech entrepreneurs. In addition, they've formed an Intergovernmental Working Group that unites government leaders and entrepreneurs to chart out policy pathways for integrating health tech into public health systems.
The impact of HTHA's efforts thus far is truly impressive: they've supported 68 organizations from 17 African countries, benefiting over 2.35 million people, securing $18 million in capital investment, and generating over 800 jobs. Looking ahead, HTHA has ambitious goals – they aim to secure $50 million in funding over the next three years, expand their reach to over 3 million people across Africa, and create 1,200 local job opportunities. 🌟👏
