The FDA just made history, issuing its first- and second-ever Emergency Use Authorizations for veterinary drugs in response to New World Screwworm (NWS) outbreaks in Central America and Mexico.
NWS is a parasitic fly that lays eggs in wounds, causing painful infestations in livestock — and occasionally people.
With cases detected across the Americas, this is a reminder: vector-borne diseases don’t respect borders.
