BANGLADESH 🇧🇩 : The Government must immediately overturn the curfew with a ‘shoot on sight’ order that grants excessive powers to the security forces.
The curfew must be urgently lifted, and all the people detained or arrested solely for exercising their right to protest peacefully should be immediately and unconditionally released.
The authorities are obligated under international law to always exercise restraint and use no more force than is strictly necessary, proportionate and lawful in response to any escalation they may face. #SaveBangaldeshiStudents #ProtectTheProtest
Day 3 — #Bangladesh remains cut off from communication with the rest of the world. Govt imposed curfew to continue indefinitely — millions of people who live on daily wages are facing #starvation. Is anyone ensuring food and essentials for the day laborers? #BangladeshBleeding

Governments must protect the rights and provide opportunities for all their citizens. The right to protest is a human right. I call on the government of #Bangladesh to correct course. Countries cannot live in the past! https://t.co/W6CZX6WfJS
Yesterday, I tweeted a video showing members of the Bangladesh police callously tossing the injured body of Shykh Yamin, a student at the Military Institute of Science and Technology (MIST). They displayed no respect for human life, and left Yamin to die on the street.
Today, I received another video of the same incident, and I am speechless at the brutality. The police not only tossed Yamin's body from their APC (armored personnel carrier) onto the road, but they also threw him over the road divider in the most inhumane manner. A police force like this deserves to be sanctioned and blacklisted. Its members should never be deployed on any @UNPeacekeeping or receive foreign aid.

We don’t know when and where #CycloneMocha will hit. However we know it will have a huge impact.
In #Bangladesh, local responders who could have acted quickly to the #RohingyaCrisis were held back by a lack of guidance and preparedness, and by delays in government approval.

On this day in 1971, over 9 million #refugees began returning to their new country, #Bangladesh.
Today, these former refugees are hosting almost 1 million #Rohingya#refugees from #Myanmar, who also want to return home one day.
Happy #BijoyDibosh Bangladesh.🇧🇩 And thank you! 🙏🏼
