@JosephKahn What surprises me is that all shooting styles have a short life span, expect standard coverage. Why Spielberg’s style still works and still baffles is something I can’t put my finger on. Even Tony Scott seems dated, something I never thought would happen.
@JosephKahn Like with comedies, you can’t fake a laugh just like with horror you can’t fake being scared or creeped out. The only two genres that live and die by those simple standards and most horrors do neither. These two hit the jackpot but the difficulty level hasn’t changed.
@JosephKahn The fact that Mr Hooper never shot anything remotely like Poltergeist again, is probably the best giveaway that the ‘creative brief’ was non-negotiable… or maybe Mr Spielberg just came in and did his thing.
@noamkroll What are they awarding here exactly? A surprise ending? The difficulty of narrative film is to have this sort of engagement for a prolonged period of time, otherwise it’s a gimmick surely?
@JosephKahn If enough people pay to see your work and admire your work to the point you can have a career doing it, and hopefully having your work inspire or entertain people, what better job is there?
@JosephKahn I don’t think social media or even streaming nearly captures what cinema is in terms of experience for an audience or social capture. It’s been ridiculed (rightly) because they suddenly forgot how to make movies. The problem is the manufacturer, not the product.
@JosephKahn Knowing your style for years now, I reckon you’d smashed it with a solid thriller. No funny business, just elegant, rocket propulsion tension from beginning to end. And that’s my unsolicited internet advice.
