Bij @NPORadio1 sprak ik over de situatie van miljoenen Afghanen die noodgedwongen Iran en Pakistan moesten verlaten. Velen van hen keren terug naar een land dat ze nauwelijks kennen.

More than 2.6 million people have returned to Afghanistan with nothing. No homes. No jobs. No safety net.
"We’re already having to make tough choices, like whether we have enough funding to continue providing even the most basic support, such as food at the borders for those returning. Right now, only 10% of the required funding has been secured" @SamiFakhouri6
Each day, @ARCSAfghanistan distributes over 6,000 hot meals at Islam Qala and 500 at Milak in Nimruz province. But with limited resources running low and more people arriving every day, the pressure on ARCS, @IFRC, and partners is growing rapidly
Urgent international support is needed to sustain this life-saving work.

“Afghanistan is an unseen crisis. The problems and the challenges are immense. We’re only talking about the situation here at the border, but these people have to return to some areas where they can rebuild their lives” @ifrc@Nvbatenburg on @AP.

Since January 2025, more than 800,000 Afghans have returned from Iran through the Islam Qala border, with over 137,000 crossing in June alone. These are not just numbers—they are families, children, and individuals who have endured exhaustion, hunger, and uncertainty on their journey home.
The Afghan Red Crescent Society @ARCSAfghanistan is at two border points, providing vital assistance with the support of the @IFRC.
Nicole van Batenburg @Nvbatenburg, IFRC Communications coordinator in Afghanistan, tells us more from Kabul.
Dramatic scenes on the Afghan-Iranian border this week as tens of thousands of people cross into an uncertain future.
@ifrc has launched an appeal to assist @ARCSAfghanistan in the response.

Northern Gaza is facing a dire humanitarian crisis as starvation threatens countless lives.
We must mobilize every resources at our disposal to deliver life-saving aid to those in desperate need.
No obstacle should impede our humanitarian mission to provide essential assistance to the people of Northern Gaza.
I urgently call for safe and unhindered passage of humanitarian aid to ensure the continuous flow of critical goods, particularly food, medicines and water across Gaza.
The people of Gaza need our help.
Let's keep humanity alive.
I am deeply saddened by the loss of another volunteer of Palestine Red Crescent @PalestineRCS.
Ameer Sobhi Abu Aysha, a member of the @PalestineRCS emergency operations room in Gaza was killed while on duty, working at Al-Amal Hospital in Khan Yunis.
The @IFRC sends its deepest condolences to his family and friends and colleagues at the Palestine Red Crescent Society.
Furthermore, recent reports indicate intense shelling in the vicinity of @PalestineRCS Al-Amal Hospital in Khan Younis, endangering lives.
Since the beginning of the conflict, we lost 18 members of our network: 15 from Palestine Red Crescent and three from Magen David Adom.
Any attack on healthcare workers, ambulances, and medical facilities is unacceptable.
I cannot stress this enough: humanitarian workers must be protected.
Humanity must prevail.
Prachtig inkijkje in het belangrijke werk van fysiotherapeut Brigitte in Gaza.
“Ik werkte hiervoor in Syrië, Afghanistan en Noord-Korea, maar zo erg heb ik het niet eerder meegemaakt.”

The humanitarian situation in Gaza is beyond catastrophic.
Civilians are still facing an unprecedented level of indignity, misery, and suffering.
The healthcare situation is on the brink of collapse with hospitals facing desperate conditions.
An escalating food crisis exacerbates an already dire situation. As Ramadan starts, countless people have nothing to break their fast with.
Also, the plight of hostages remains a serious humanitarian concern, leaving their families caught between despair and hope as they wait for news about their loved ones.
Once again, I urge all parties to turn these urgent asks into powerful actions:
- Protect civilians and healthcare workers and facilities
- Grant unhindered and safe access to reach all parts of Gaza
- Scale up aid efforts in Gaza.
I also reiterate my call for the unconditional release of all hostages.
The grim reality of this conflict highlights the urgent need for lasting peace and stability.
