Happy Victoria Day🎇
Whether you’re enjoying a long weekend BBQ, planting your garden, or spending time with family and friends, we hope you take a moment to appreciate the incredible food grown and raised right here in Ontario.
From farm to table, there’s so much to discover!
We were thrilled to have such a fantastic turnout for our Concept Design Reveal held at the Listowel Golf Club.
This event was an exclusive opportunity for some of our early supporters, advocates & volunteers to view the design and hear from Moriyama Teshima Architects!
Did you know the average family wastes $1,866 worth of food each year?
Small actions such as planning meals, using leftovers, and composting can make a big difference.
Reducing food waste strengthens our food system, supports sustainability, and protects valuable resources.
What is that smell? 👀
If you’ve noticed it this spring, you’re not alone. Farmers are busy getting fields ready for planting, and that sometimes includes spreading manure.
It might not be your favourite scent, but it plays an important role. Manure is a natural fertilizer that returns nutrients to the soil, helping crops grow while reducing the need for synthetic inputs.
You may also notice farm equipment moving between fields this time of year, so keep an eye out and give them space on the roads.
So yes, it’s a strong smell… but it’s also a sign that spring planting is underway very soon!

🌎 As Earth Day approaches, it’s worth reflecting on the foundation of agriculture: our soil.
Ontario’s farmland supports 200+ commodities and helps feed people here and around the world. But it’s a finite resource once it’s gone, it’s gone for good.
This Earth Day, let’s recognize the value of healthy soils because everything we grow depends on it.

Part 2: Since November, Moriyama Teshima Architects has made several trips to Listowel to engage with our board, the agri-food industry, & the broader community. Their collaborative, curious approach has shaped an inspiring vision that aligns beautifully with our goals.
Part 1: The response to our RFP for Architectural Concept Designs was incredible — 41 firms from across Canada submitted proposals. We’re grateful for the creativity and vision shared by every team. After a thorough review, we selected Moriyama Teshima Architects.
In case you missed it, here is the recent piece by @ScottMillerCTV on the newly developed concept designs for the future centre 🌱

Thanks to the generous support of the Ag Adaptation Council and the Gay Lea Foundation, the OAFDC was able to issue a RFP for Architectural Concept Drawings to help advance our project. As part of the process, last fall we hosted a guided bus tour, "Ag 101" overview & lunch!
This past year, the Ontario Agri‑Food Discovery Centre was grateful to receive support in the amount of $50,000 from the Agricultural Adaptation Council. We are grateful for their generous support and proudly recognize them as a Champion Donor.
