Let me get this straight.

The Starbucks on University Way in Seattle — one of the most progressive zip codes in America — just delivered a case study that no business school could write better.

Workers went on strike. Three months in, they had to end it because they couldn't afford to keep going without a paycheck. Then Starbucks announced the store is closing April 5th. And the workers who went on strike were told they are not eligible to transfer to other locations.

So to recap: they struck, they lost income for three months, the store is closing, and they don't get to move to another Starbucks.

This is what happens when the bumper sticker meets the spreadsheet. Striking workers don't get paid. Stores that aren't profitable get closed. Corporations don't reward disruption with promotions. These are not novel concepts — they are how employment has functioned for the entire history of employment.

Seattle has spent years electing politicians who treat basic economics like an opinion. The workers at this location were presumably raised in that same ideological environment. The idea that you can withhold labor indefinitely and the business simply waits patiently for you to return is a fantasy — and an expensive one.

A researcher who advised the BC government on addiction for 20+ years revealed at health committee that both officials used their government positions to push safe supply and decriminalization before building companies around those same policies.

Mark Tyndall launched MySafe Society while still serving as a senior government official.

The company installed vending machines that dispensed opioids to drug users.

The federal government gave them over $3.5 million in taxpayer dollars to do it.

Perry Kendall founded Fair Price Pharma while serving as executive director of the government-funded BC Centre on Substance Use.

The company's goal was to produce a domestic supply of injectable heroin.

President Trump is urging Congress to pass the SAVE America Act – one of the most critical pieces of legislation in recent history.

The SAVE America Act is overwhelmingly popular with all Americans because each provision is rooted in common sense.

The SAVE America Act has five simple requirements:

Number one, voters have to show ID to cast a ballot in an American election. 90% of Americans – including ~80% of Democrat voters – agree with this.

Number two, the SAVE America Act will require all voters to show proof of citizenship in order to register to vote.

Number three, the SAVE America Act abolishes the incredibly unsecure practice of universal mail-in ballots which throw the door wide open for fraud. Importantly, the SAVE America Act maintains exceptions for Americans to use mail-in-ballots for illness, disability, military, or travel reasons.

Number four, the SAVE America Act permanently bans men from competing in women’s sports.

Number five, the SAVE America Act bans transgender mutilation surgery for children.
