@Simonro40611952 @AshleyFulwood@psalkovskis I presented with chronic ocd and anorexia and IAPT told me I couldn’t use their service. I had to fight to be seen at CMH and was plopped onto endless waiting lists. It was over 2 years before I saw someone.
@LondonOcd@beatED@ocdaction@OCDUK Oh yes, I’m a veteran. I’ve been through ED services twice and I’ve had many many hours of ERP and ACT for my OCD. It’s just that in treatment it’s focused on one or the other. I haven’t had joined up treatment.
@LetsHelpTogeth You don’t get rid of intrusive thoughts! You just get rid of the meaning you attach to those thoughts. Your thoughts aren’t the problem. X
@LetsHelpTogeth Don’t fight your thoughts, let them come. They’re just thoughts. Walk into the fear and hold back on those compulsions. You have all the tools to beat this xz
isn’t it absolutely insane how a person who played a role in a traumatic experience in your life could very well live the rest of their lives oblivious to the fact that they’ve caused you such trauma idk lol
@emkburke Yes!!! I find it difficult to get treatment for my ocd because of my eating disorder. My ocd causes my eating disorder but no one seems to want to touch it. It’s so frustrating.
Not usually one to post this kind of thing but... 24 years ago today I gave birth to my daughter. As a 16 year old many people thought I had ruined my life. I’ve just finished my 1st month as a Consultant Cardiologist, today I’m feeling proud. #nowrongpath
@docmartin68 Yeah at the time I felt so frightened. I actually had OCD (at the time completely missed by CMHS + subsequent tertiary care) and an eating disorder. I’m not sure the diagnosis was even accurate. I’d love to get a debrief even now, 13 years later. It was a traumatic time.
@docmartin68 Personality disorder diagnoses invite iatrogenic harm/abuse, have negative effects on a patient's self confidence, lead to denial of treatment and a failure to acknowledge other conditions. The criteria are too vague and broad - they would apply to anyone experiencing trauma.
@docmartin68 Harmful. It wasn’t explained or referenced in any way other than on a letter I was cc’d in on. I didn’t know anything about personality disorders other than misinformation gleened from the world around me. I felt like a psycho. I was diagnosed with borderline PD.
