I have been sharing the gospel of Jesus with others since he changed my life over 50 years ago. No DMs except questions about evangelism and discipleship.
Your observation about paid ads is enlightening to me. It seems like the strongest argument against the YouVersion app.
I’m not a user of YouVersion. I use Logos. If I have a fairly large library, which includes the passion translation. If they offered a copy of the Jehovah’s Witnesses, “New World translation“ I would want a copy of that too. I read and study lots of things I don’t agree with.
However, YouVersion may be used differently. If it’s used primarily as a devotional tool, I can see your concern.
@FightofFaith God bless you brother!
“How beautiful on the mountains
are the feet of those who bring good news,
who proclaim peace,
who bring good tidings,
who proclaim salvation,
who say to Zion,
“Your God reigns!” Isaiah 52:7
@MikeWingerii Count Ludwig von Zinzendorf had this advice for his young Missionaries: Preach the Gospel, Die, Be forgoten!
No man of God cares what history thinks of them. We labor for the aproval of only one person!
A for those who are actually saved.
But it is clearly possible for someone to think they are saved and not actually be saved.
"Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only the one who does the will of my Father who is in heaven.
Many will say to me on that day, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name and in your name drive out demons and in your name perform many miracles?’ Then I will tell them plainly, ‘I never knew you. Away from me, you evildoers!’" Matthew 7:21–23
@matt_everhard Ordained ministers - especially Presbyterians - should be able to lead people to Christ, teach them to be disciples, who in turn can lead others to Christ. Sadly, most cannot, or will not!

@DrWaldmiller@Protestia There is no such thing as "The Jezebel Spirit" or "The Ruth Sprit". There is only Biblically illiterate clergy creating man made rules to put a yoke on believers that God never intended or commanded!
@FightofFaith@Vincent_Writes Adrian Rogers put it best, “Sin will take you farther than you want to go, keep you longer than you want to stay, cost you more than you want to pay”
@FightofFaith I am praying Colossians 4:3–4 for your brother!
“And pray for us, too, that God may open a door for our message, so that we may proclaim the mystery of Christ, for which I am in chains. Pray that I may proclaim it clearly, as I should.”
My observation is that very few evangelical Christians in the USA are attempting to share the gospel and make disciples. Even fewer are successfully winning souls to Christ and making disciples. This is irrespective of denominational background, tradition or affiliation.
We will all stand before the judgement seat of Christ and give an account for our lives. Because of this, we MUST attempt to persuade men to come to Christ.
My own focus is on training Christians from around the world (currently in the USA, Philippines, Nigeria and Uganda) via zoom. We train people in personal evangelism. Working with friends, family, neighbors and coworkers. This is the most common type of evangelism seen in the New Testament and throughout church history. I think there are real and articulable biblical principles for evangelism. We try to impart these to those we work with.
However, in practice I have never seen any type of bad evangelism. I am always thrilled whenever any fellowship of believers emphasizes evangelism and disciple making! Those commenting here, who are part of fellowships that are teaching and encouraging their fellow believers to share the gospel – I commend you! May God bless you and increase your tribe!
I wrote this and put it on the desktop of my computer:
My Lord and Master:
Whether by my life or my death,
Whether in riches or in poverty,
In fame or obscurity,
In health or sickness,
In heroic deed or quiet obedience -
I serve YOU in humble submission,
Desiring the salvation of the lost
And the realization of your kingdom!
