Sad scenes in Samburu as Police officers shot dead over 700 goats, 500 cattle, and several donkeys .

Local herders reported that a heavy contingent of police officers, believed to be from the General Service Unit (GSU) and the Anti-Stock Theft Unit (ASTU), arrived via helicopters and lorries.

It baffles me when people, especially soldiers and particularly those who have served on the front lines, say that terrorism can be completely ended in 24 hours if only the government wants it badly enough.

Let’s be serious. Look at the facts

No government can simply press a button and eliminate terrorism in 24 hours. You can launch a massive operation, kill or capture a large number of fighters, destroy camps and disrupt their command structure within hours. But that is not the same thing as ending terrorism.

Intelligence agencies cannot identify every terrorist, every sleeper cell, every facilitator, every financier or every person providing information and logistical support. Some people deliberately disappear into civilian populations. Others operate through networks that may take years to uncover.

And then there is the part most of you conveniently ignore which are "recruitment and radicalisation"

If a child watches his father get killed and grows up believing that the security forces murdered his family, what happens when he becomes an adult and decides to seek revenge?

Is that child already a terrorist?

If he isn't, at what point does he become one?

And if your answer is to eliminate him before he becomes a terrorist, then who exactly decides which child will become one?

If you destroy an insurgent group today but leave behind the grievances, networks, propaganda and conditions that produced its recruits, what prevents another group from emerging tomorrow under a different name?

If a former fighter surrenders, but his community remains radicalised and his children grow up surrounded by the same grievances and extremist narratives, have you ended terrorism or merely removed one generation of fighters?

This is precisely why serious counterterrorism strategies go beyond killing or capturing existing militants. The UN set a counterterrorism framework that includes addressing conditions conducive to terrorism, preventing it.

None of this means terrorists should not be fought with intensity. Security operations, intelligence, arrests and military force are essential parts of counterterrorism.

But defeating today's fighters and eliminating the conditions that continually produce tomorrow's fighters are two different problems.

So before telling everyone that terrorism can be ended in 24 hours, answer one simple question:

Can any of you tell me which country has successfully eliminated terrorism within 24 hours using this model?

Not reduced attacks, not destroyed a camp, not killed a group of fighters, not declared victory. Asin actually ended terrorism.

PARADE REHEARSALS INTENSIFY AHEAD OF THE PASSING-OUT PARADE

Today, the Deputy Commandant General, Paramilitary Training and National Service, Evans T. Yaite, reviewed the ongoing recruits’ parade rehearsals at the NYS Paramilitary Academy, Gilgil, as preparations for the upcoming Passing-Out Parade intensify.

The DCG. was accompanied by the Director, Paramilitary Academy, SACG. Loice C. Koech, MBS, the Regional Commander, Rift Valley Region, SACG. Gilbert Maina, OGW, and other senior officers from the Academy.
The DCG. urged the recruits to uphold the core values of the Service, emphasising that excellence is achieved through commitment, discipline, dedication and continuous practice.
