Actually, yes. Christians have held important political positions in several Muslim-majority countries.

In Iraq, Lara Youssif Zara, a Chaldean Catholic, became mayor of Alqosh, while Basim Bello, another Christian, served for years as mayor of Tel Keppe.

In Syria, Suleiman Khalil, a Christian, served as mayor of Sadad.

In Turkey, Syriac Christian Februniye Akyol became co-mayor of Mardin, making her the first Christian woman to lead one of Turkey’s metropolitan municipalities.

And perhaps the strongest example is Indonesia, the world’s largest Muslim-majority country, where Christian politician Basuki “Ahok” Tjahaja Purnama served as governor of Jakarta, a city of millions.

So yes, some Muslim-majority countries are far more restrictive than others, but saying a Christian can never hold such office in an Islamic or Muslim-majority country is simply not true.
