Most people crown $DOGE as the original memecoin that started it all.

They’re wrong.

The true pioneer dropped 8 days earlier created by the exact same legend who later launched Dogecoin.

This is the forgotten origin story of Bellscoin ($BELLS)

1/ On November 28, 2013, Billy Markus (aka @BillyM2k) posted on BitcoinTalk.

He wasn’t famous yet.

His idea? A fun new coin called Bells, directly inspired by Nintendo’s Animal Crossing game.

In the game, “Bells” are the main currency earned by collecting fruits, catching bugs, fishing, digging fossils, and trading items.

Billy’s genius twist: “In the crypto world, we just mine for them!”

Pure meme energy before “memecoin” was even a word.

2/ The full announcement quote that started it all:

“In the Animal Crossing universe, Bells are the primary form of currency. To gather them, you must collect fruits, catch bugs, fish, dig for fossils, etc. and trade those items for Bells. In the crypto world, we just mine for them!”

Random rewards to match the game’s randomness. Scrypt algo. 60-second blocks. No premine. Max supply 500 million.

It was designed to be “Fast and fun!” the exact blueprint for everything that followed.

3/ Just 8 days later, on December 6, 2013, Billy teamed up with Jackson Palmer.

They took the vibe, slapped the viral Shiba Inu meme on it, and launched Dogecoin.

Dogecoin exploded thanks to the cute dog, Elon tweets, and massive community hype.

Bellscoin? It quietly faded into the shadows. The prototype got overshadowed by its flashier cousin.
