🇺🇸 Happy Independence Day from USS Constitution! 🇺🇸
USS Constitution, the world’s oldest commissioned warship afloat, got underway in Boston Harbor today to celebrate America’s 250th birthday.
Happy Birthday, America!
@nuhre_ "...buying digital on Steam since 2003..." Call me old fashioned, but I'm pretty sure my parents' dial up Internet service couldn't handle such a thing in 2003.
Happy 250th birthday, America! We got you a present. 🇺🇸
The red, white, and blue stars of this globular cluster shine like a sparkler waved on a dark night in this image from @NASAHubble, released in celebration of the United States' 250th anniversary.
Here's the uncropped image from the video I shared yesterday, showing this massive wave of energy traveling through interstellar space after a supernova.
This is a 65 hour exposure captured entirely from my backyard.

Viggo Mortensen as Aragorn in The Lord of the Rings was a casting miracle. He joined the film just days before shooting, trained with sword master nonstop, did his own stunts & even carried his sword off set. Peter Jackson said, “He became Aragorn the moment he arrived.”
Now it's really hard to accept that someone other than Viggo Mortensen will be playing Aragorn. Because Viggo Mortensen was Aragorn himself.
The short answer is because 'apartment', first attested in 1645, is the older word that used to be commonplace in England. 'Flat', in the sense of a dwelling place, was originally a Scottish dialectal word, and is only attested since 1737. As usual, when British and American English differ, it is usually the American form that preserves the original state of the language.
@nuhre_ The idea so many seem to have that a studio which produced great games 10-20 years ago must continue to exist despite their repeated fumbles and failures baffles me. The people who made what you admire aren't even with those companies anymore for the most part.
"You'll be playing GTA 6 for the next ten years! $100 is an investment!"
Meanwhile, I've been playing the same three games for the past 15 years, and I bought all of them for $1.99 during a Steam sale.
@nuhre_ It's the same thing that happens with micro transaction. People complain loudly about the ubiquity of them, but ultimately pay anyway. It's fully within your power not to partake, but if you're going to hand over money there isn't much justification for you to complain.
