What an irony of history, that the acclaimed defenders of democracy and human rights who claimed to have fought for democracy during the era of General Sani Abacha now find themselves worse than the man they opposed.

Today, General Sani Abacha, once presumed face of oppression, will be remembered as seemingly more democratic and more respectful of human rights than the so-called champions of activism from the NADECO days. Power indeed reveals character.

I’m beginning to see a pattern here, and even though I may be wrong, my conviction is stronger than my doubt.

I have a theory that there’s a reverse APC campaign going on on the TL. Yes, those protest tweets that get deleted one hour after they go viral. They make a post against the government, especially regarding protests, then delete it, and the quotes are filled with the same set of influencers saying things like:

“They threatened him???”
“Ahh, what really happened?”
“Chai, boss calls have been made,” and so on.

Then the people who made and deleted the tweet come out and say, “After God, na government” and “APC is working. You can tweet otherwise on your page 🙏,” to make it look like they were actually threatened.

My theory is that no one threatened anyone. They didn’t go to anyone’s family house to hold them or their family hostage. They were not under duress to tweet the disclaimers or delete them. It is reverse PR—pattern recognition right here. And the aim is to scare people from coming out to protest or speak up.
If you read between the lines, you’ll see exactly what I’m talking about. You can’t fóol me.

Troubling Developments in Our Polity that Must Be Nipped in the Bud.

I have just been made aware early this morning that Revered religious leader, Sheikh Ahmad Tijjani Umar has been arrested by authorities shortly after hosting me in Kaduna on Sunday.

This development underscores the deeply troubling state of our nation and our democracy, where freedom of speech and movement is increasingly threatened, and where citizens and perceived political opponents face harassment and unnecessary persecution. This cannot be allowed to continue.

This country must defend freedom and free speech, which are the hallmarks of every democratic society. Suppression and intimidation of dissent can never stand in a democratic society, and this Nigerian government must understand this fact.

I respectfully call on all those bent on undermining our already fragile democracy to please stop and apply the rule of law and tenets of democracy in dealing with citizens. -PO

Yesterday marked another epoch‑making moment in our journey of transformation as we commissioned the reclaimed and reconstructed Ovom Road, Aba. The project has saved our people from the life‑threatening menace of gully erosion. What was once a hopeless situation has now become a story of renewal, resilience, and progress.

I recalled how, just a few years ago, Ovom was seemingly beyond redemption. In less than two years, however, we filled a 42‑metre gully stretching over 600 metres, a chasm large enough to swallow an eight‑storey building. With rigid pavement technology and proper control measures, we have permanently contained the menace, sparing our community from what could have been an interminable disaster.

On the same day, we also flagged off the reconstruction of the long‑abandoned Enyimba Hotel project, now reborn as the Enyimba‑Radisson Hotel, in partnership with the global hospitality brand, Radisson Blu. This 5‑star facility will deliver:

- A 120‑room hotel within 12 months
- A world‑class convention centre for businesses and public sector organisations
- Expansion to a 250‑room complex within 4 years, positioning Aba as a premier commercial and industrial hub in West Africa.

I sincerely acknowledge the vision and contributions of Ajie Ukpabi Asika, then Administrator of East Central State, and Chief Sam Mbakwe, former Governor of old Imo State, who laid the foundation for this dream. I also salute the leadership and membership of Aba Chamber of Commerce, Industry, Mines and Agriculture (ACCIMA), alongside stalwarts of the Aba business community, for their resilience in keeping the Enyimba Hotel vision alive across decades.
