It’s time to finally debunk this myth and misinformation that is amplified by Trump himself and MAGA politicians and influencers.

This is how unbelievably uneducated many MAGA Americans are when it comes to NATO.

They actually think the entire U.S. annual defense budget is America’s “payment” to NATO.

No, y’all subrednecks.

That is the annual military budget of the United States. America spends that money on its own armed forces, whether it’s in NATO or not.

NATO does not collect a trillion-dollar check from the United States every year. The NATO guideline is simple: each member is expected to invest a percentage of its own GDP in its own military.

For example, Poland spends about 5% of its GDP on defense. That’s roughly $44 billion because Poland’s GDP is about $1 trillion. If Poland had a GDP of roughly $32 trillion, just like the United States, 5% would equal about $1.6 trillion, far more than the current U.S. defense budget.

That’s why comparing raw dollar amounts instead of percentages of GDP is either economic illiteracy or deliberate propaganda.

One more thing,

The actual annual NATO common budget isn’t anywhere near the U.S. defense budget. It’s only about €4.6 billion (roughly $5 billion USD) for headquarters, command structures, communications, infrastructure, and joint operations, shared by all NATO members according to an agreed cost-sharing formula.

Deci DIE (CIE) era Securitatea.
