A Pa. school's been growing faster than any school before. I've spent the past 6 months looking into why and what it means for education in Pa.
Today you can read Part I of: "Virtual Dominance: How a cyber charter school has upended K-12 education in Pa.”

Many speakers at the 3-hour hearing were parents who told harrowing stories of problems in childbirth or difficulties going back to work. Others said a paid parental leave mandate could be a disaster for the county’s struggling small employers. https://t.co/aa6K4ICfFZ
Ever reach the end of Trash Day to find your trash ... still there? In Pittsburgh, complaints related to garbage collection have tripled since 2019. See if your neighborhood is a missed-trash hotspot https://t.co/Vv5h1qFfAe
For more than a decade @PublicSourcePA has published Pittsburgh and Allegheny County government payroll information, to give residents details about where their tax money goes.
Now, for the 1st time, we do the same for the county's judicial branch: https://t.co/Af8Y5dl0vh
The Pittsburgh-area man who was tackled by police for speaking out against ICE for longer than his alloted 3 minutes...
Well, it turns out surveillance footage shows the police tackled him well before his 3 minutes was up.

@RyanDeto Has the airport authority said $8 was artificially low?
It doesn't seem like the authority is spending a ton of $ maintaining those lots but maybe it's more expensive than it appears?
The new airport's cost was supposed be paid through airline fees, not parking, right?
Pat Catena is County Council prez and had the county party's endorsement.
“That just doesn’t work anymore. People just don’t care. You need to give them a vision of how you want to improve their lives.” @TomDuerrPA

Great episode.
Top takeaways:
Not enough economic pain felt by U.S. to achieve a compromise with Iran. Gas prices need to get closer to $6.
(Iranian regime already killed thousands of its citizens, unclear why economic hardship would motivate them?)
Farmers making choices today on wheat. There’s a world where the “bun” costs as much as the “burger” in a year.
5% demand deduction on oil already occurred. Inventories and stock pile releases have kept control on prices. When they run out, we’ll see futures reflect demand.
Apparently - whey protein demand is killing aged cheese processes?
And the Euros stockpiled fertilizer in December to sidestep another credit bill out of the EU. So, by luck - not strategy - European farmers doing okay on fertilizer this year.
It's primary election day in PA. @PublicSourcePA will run live results starting at 8. For now, here's what's up in Allegheny County, Pittsburgh https://t.co/lbw9rmcFmE

My friend @JoshuaPVaughn and I led an amazing indepth reporting class this semester @PSUBellisario. Our students tackled ICE & its largest detention facility in the Northeast. Today the first of our 8-part series was published in @PennLive. So proud! https://t.co/OSOmPM0OYy
The Pulitzer controversy exposes a flaw in the awards system: you never learn why stories aren’t chosen. It lacks transparency. It would be more work but perhaps worthwhile to take the time to explain (and therefore leave open for debate) the reasons why stories were NOT chosen.
I guess it wasn't "novel" to track down 80 victims (all their names redacted from court documents, meaning I had to find them), convince 8 of them to speak to me, four on the record-- and on camera! Does anyone understand how difficult that was? It was so difficult that I contacted sexual assault psychiatrists to guide me so that I wouldn't re-traumatize them. 1/
It’s rare to see really good, accurate public reporting on what’s driving the economics of our electric sector, in jargon-free language that everyone can understand. So read this. It’s excellent. https://t.co/zS8AvIFwiR
@DKThomp The phrase "competency porn" misses a key part of what unites shows like the Pitt and the West Wing: It's not just that they show skillfulness but they differentiate between characters who are and aren't willing to engage with the moral complexity of the situations they face.
