Applied Linguistics and Academic English Assistant Professor at Nihon University, Japan. Interests: SLA, Sneakers, Lists, Hip Hop, Identity, ๆฅๆฌ่ช & ๐.
All ready for my presentation at @JALT_PanSIG today. I'll be presenting my research on foreign English teachers learning Japanese.
If you are interested in attending, it's in Building 8, Room 108 at 13.05 today.
My latest article for @Lg_on_the_Move is about my PhD dissertation that examined how English teachers learn Japanese. Breaks down my own connection with my research and some of the broader results. Stay tuned for a book version of my PhD next year.
In this new post on Language on the Move, @OTMinns shares his research on the linguistic consequences of privileged mobility.

Shocking how much of it is provided by volunteers and that it would take 100 years for all the foreigners in Shibuya-ku to complete classes.
Has anyone ever had a good experiences with these classes?
https://t.co/LonxJO2RRV The call for papers is now live for BAAL2024. Our conference theme is 'Applied linguistics in contemporary contexts: practices, approaches and future directions'. See you in Essex on 5th, 6th and 7th September. #BAAL2024#AppliedLinguistics
The weird life of an Academic is you patiently wait for the end of term to get all the non-teaching stuff done and then you spend a large amount of your time stressing that you are not getting enough done.

Weird not to be attending @BAAL2023York First few years of my PhD, I was really deeply involved with conference organising and being on the EC. Presented 3 times, organised Post-grad events and live-tweeted.
Hope it's a great conference for everyone. #BAAL2023York
Pleased to announce that I am now Dr Minns. Passed my Viva back in January and minor corrections were accepted last month.
I haven't been active on Twitter in the last few years but I wanted thank you to all the people on here that supported and took part in my research.
Back in my favourite cafe doing the final edits for submitting my thesis later this month. Itโs been a very long and winding road but itโs great to be almost finished. Even fracturing my knee cap in September was a minor setback.
As I write up the final conclusions to my PhD and get ready to start a full-time job next week, I'm forever reminded how accurately my partner captured the last few years of my life back in 2019.
My partner has produced the most accurate representation of my life as a PhD student. Happy new year to all and I hope everyone has a productive 2019, no matter what your battling with. #phdchat
I'll be making my return to Twitter tomorrow by live-tweeting this event from the main BAAL account. Really happy to be able to take part in this event but it feels like every birthday I have will forever be overshadowed by a BAAL event.
BAAL members, don't forget the BAAL 2020 Online Conference is tomorrow.
We start at 9:00am BST with the PGR/ECR Workshop.

I step out for a moment (4 months) from Twitter and the world went mad. Been a strangely interesting few months, getting on with finishing my PhD and starting two new jobs at unis here in Tokyo while my partner was put on sick leave for 6 months and the Pandemic went down.
My partner's sick leave has been great, she's massively stressed over the past few years and she's finally had the time to get back some of her hobbies and old energy. She's even started making her accessories, check them out here: https://t.co/RfjeQOnx6t
