Today I learned that the ER is less busy while football is on. And if the Cowboys have a bad first half, the ER gets more crowded during the second half.
Apparently people either don’t do ER-worthy stuff because they’re watching the game, or they just hold off til later.
@shaunwissmann In that case, yes it is a perennial frustration that we don’t have a clearer picture of what early shepherds did. In addition to your apostolic fathers study, I’d recommend looking to OT patterns that created expectations of pastoral care.

Paul writes Philippians to the church “along with the overseers and deacons.” He seems to have appointed long term leadership to steward the church after he had moved on.
