She/her. ADHD. Working for EPUT in MH Rehab. Interests- herpetology, gaming, & embroidery. Trans rights are human rights. Immigrants: we get the job done.
My eldest had a physio appointment yesterday for ongoing lung/chest pain- it was so positive. What really sticks with me was the power of asking the physio to use their new name, and my kid's reaction to realising they weren't going to be dead-named for the whole appointment.
Setting up a wildlife area in our garden at work. Would love to get a camera trap in there - does anyone know of any grants that could help us? This is for a mental health rehab facility in Essex. @EssexWildlife
@AlexandratheOT I disclose. If they don't want to hire me because of my disabilities then I probably don't want to work there. My health is more important than getting a job that will ultimately be a hostile work environment.
After an amazing placement during my training with EPUT, I'm so excited to be working for them now. MH Rehab is like gold dust so I feel so lucky that I saw the job opening!!
@OTBev@theRCOT Especially funny as I built Warhammer minis with a service user at my previous job 3 weeks ago and then chatted with another patient at my new job today as he painted his.
Two weeks until I can run OT groups again! I've been covering the housing side of things for the past few months and I'm so looking forward to being fully OT again.
The other thing that has kept my OT brain ticking has been a peer mentorship. After a couple of hours and an iced coffee today I feel absolutely refreshed!!
Sorry to hear that #DogsofRCOT2022 didn't take off like hoped, unfortunately I only have a scaly puppy to add to the hashtag - he was very loud during the later sessions! #rcot2022
@Kirstie_OT @theRCOT I was making a heck of a racket digging for pieces while making Lego flowers during a very focused session and I just thought 'hmmm, maybe a good thing they can't hear this!' XD
Yes, face-to-face conferences are nice. Free pens, right?? But this conference was SO accessible. When I started to feel rough, I could take the session to the duvet with me. When I needed to walk, it became a podcast. When it was too much, I could escape. Loved it. #RCOT2022
@jennifercarers1 @DiabetesUK Don't get me wrong, engaging with sessions in the chat is amazing and the virtual conference made this more comfortable for me, but sometimes you just need to move! At in-person conferences this just meant I'd wander through posters instead of attending a session slot.
And while I doubt that anyone would shun me doing embroidery during a session, somehow I think that my lego building yesterday would not have gone down well during a face-to-face session 😂
@nataliehixy@AbleOTUK @Occ4LifeLtd @smileyfacehalo @OT_rach @AmerieOT@GeorgiaVineOT @SusanGriffiths5 @HayleyEllis_OT@theRCOT Agreed! It's that managing of multiple parts of my life that got really hard, and so unfortunately this part got the cut! It's a shame that those without lived experience don't always take time to learn a bit more about it.
Hi twitter, it's been a while. The past few months I've been wearing so many different hats and felt I was losing my OT-ness in the process. Thank you to @RCOTEastern for sponsoring my spot at #rcot2022- this is what I needed to get my fight back.
Thanks so much for everyone offering their time to #TalktoSteve. Today I spoke to OTs providing a service to the homeless, an OT setting up a frailty service in GP practice, an OT who has set up a nationwide neuro service, and a regional AHP lead. Anything that OTs can't do?
Currently banging my head against a wall because I can't contact a council. Or I could, if I register on their website and use a form that isn't suitable. The phone line just tells me to go online. If our service didn't exist, how do rough sleepers report homelessness?!
