This year's @UniofOxford and @Cambridge_Uni Boat Races 2021 take place this weekend. The Boat Club rules of 1966 allowed the practising Oxford crews full access to the river; everyone else on there had to make way. #TheBoatRace@theboatrace

This register, kept by the Professor of Astronomy @UniofOxford at the University Observatory 1890-1899, recorded and analysed the sightings of the phototelescope. The Observatory, opened in the University Parks in 1875, was the University's first own observatory. @OxfordAstro

From 1898-1901, the ceiling of the @SheldonianOxUni was extensively restored. The work was supervised by Robert J Nairn, who left a 'time capsule' in the ceiling, found in 1995 during further restoration. The 'capsule' included his letter, photograph and newspapers of the day.
The rules governing undergraduate life @UniofOxford were much harsher in the past then they are now. According to this Proctors' memorandum from 1926, students were banned from all bars, could only dine at 'approved' restaurants and had to get permission to hold a dinner party.
In 1814 the University hosted one of the biggest events in its history: the visit of the allied sovereigns of Europe. The Prince Regent, Tsar of Russia, King of Prussia, and others, were treated to a lavish banquet in the Radcliffe Camera. The costs of which were huge.
@murmurswrote@burgonsoc Pedantry always appreciated here. The name Literae Humaniores still exists but over recent years it has been begun to be superseded by Classics. The Final Honour School is now 'Classics (Literae Humaniores)'.
C.S. Lewis joined Oxford University in 1917 but was exempted from having to take any University examinations until 1920 as he fought in the First World War. He graduated in 1922 with first class honours in Classics (known then as 'Literae Humaniores')
In December 1859, Oxford students were misbehaving. The University issued this stern notice cautioning them against 'smoking at Public Entertainments and otherwise creating annoyances' after it received a number of complaints.
This month marks 100 years since women were formally admitted to @UniofOxford even though women were studying here before that. The University Archives has recently released a guide on how to find out information about these pioneers: https://t.co/NKG4oyKWXv.
