A state-owned airline considering legal action, on top of Burnham's odd comments, only emphasises the mess of this
It's insane we're talking about a mere game, a cultural pursuit
Regardless of final outcome, this is WHY state actors shouldn't own clubs

@JCleverOne@gapatriotgirlx@ettingermentum In Georgia, especially in metro Atlanta, gas isn't just consumption. Because we lack proper mass transit, overwhelming majority of the 6.5 mil people in the metro need fuel to function on a daily basis. And Kemp can't unilaterally force mass transit on the metro

Now that we know (with certainty) that Thomas Jefferson fathered children with Sally Hemings, it is funny to look back on the (pre-DNA era) arguments that "experts" came up with to deny that this could be true. So naive...
This is an extraordinary escalation. Even amid the White House's lawsuits & threats, we've rarely seen this kind of collection action by archrival news outlets.
@NaturalDorian@Protestia The irony about his comment on Mark (attempting to appeal to the supposed earliest text) is that most of Paul's letters--the ones "scholars" agree are legit--predate Mark and speak of the literal resurrection. 🤷🏿♂️
Megan, sorry for the delayed response. Just bothered to look. I think this response of yours is embarrassingly insipid. Sorry.
First, as many have noted, you seem to know nothing about Jefferson’s writings on this, or Washington’s Letter to the Hebrew Congregation in Newport, or the debates around the establishment clause, the meaning of the Declaration, not to mention the role of deism and similar ideas.
You also seem to think “they were 99% Christian” is some kind of novel insight and silver bullet argument. Disagreements between Christian denominations were quite meaningful to the Founders at the time, and to American culture generally. There were these people called “the Puritans” who, in no small part because these disagreements, fled England for America. It’s true that states could have established churches, but that practice evaporated very early in the new republic, in part because of this preference for theological diversity (if you prefer “theological pluralism” that’s fine with me). Indeed Madison and others argued that theological competition was actually good.
But the really annoying thing about your response is that you are buying into the idea that the low brow rank bigotry that started this conversation can be salvaged with your shallow historical and theological musings. You are coming to the rescue of a mob of bigots, and you’re carrying a nerf bat into the fight.
@stehoare@johngibbonsblog Stevie too. I always think about the match against Napoli where Stevie came on and transformed the team from a league one side to a champions League looking side. My issue with the Wirtz argument is that good players will look good no matter how shit everyone else is
President Bush throws the first pitch of Game 3 of the 2001 World Series after 9/11
As silly as it sounds, it was important for him to throw a strike. No matter what you think of him, that was clutch/badass. Used the regulation rubber as well. Big time...
25 years later and I still think this is the greatest ceremonial first pitch ever
Remembering Betty Ann Ong.
She grew up in San Francisco’s Chinatown, the youngest of four, the kid who used to watch planes take off at SFO and later made flying her life.
Friends called her Bee.
She collected Beanie Babies, visited seniors in Boston on her days off, and picked up extra trips so she could afford a vacation with her sister.
On September 11, 2001, that extra trip put her on American Airlines Flight 11.
She was not supposed to be on that plane.
From the rear galley she picked up an Airfone and became the first person to tell the ground what was happening: the cockpit would not answer, people had been stabbed, the cabin was filling with something that made it hard to breathe.
“I think we’re getting hijacked,” she said.
Then she stayed on the line for 23 minutes.
She gave seat numbers.
She answered questions.
Near the end she asked them to pray.
That call was the first confirmed warning that the country was under attack.
It helped controllers begin clearing the sky.
The 9/11 Commission later called her a hero.
A recreation center in her old neighborhood now carries her name.
She was 45.
She was doing her job until the last second.
Today is a good day to say her name.
The government is not a company. Companies pay dividends. Government does not. Companies sell goods and/or services and make money. The government taxes you on pain of arrest and confiscation of property. If the government were a business with $40 trillion in debt, it’d be out of business. Stop being stupid.
The majority of far-right groups telling women they shouldn’t work employ women themselves. Many have full-time female staff who are moms and have worked there for years.
So look at their websites. Look at their organizations. Look at the people behind the message. And ask yourself: Are they actually living the life they say you shouldn't live?
