After looking at the state of the Muslim world, I have come to this realization: Pakistan is the cleverest and meanest of them all. It survived decades under dictatorship, endured Shia Sunni conflicts and the Taliban, was attacked by a nuclear state and still managed to embarrass that country, became allied with both sides of the world powers and still managed to make nukes. The sheer resilience and will to outlive everyone, as a 75 year old country, even in rags, has to be appreciated.

At India’s independence on August 15, 1947, several Muslim-majority princely states existed under British suzerainty.

- Hyderabad: A major state in south-central India with a Muslim ruler (Nizam) but a Hindu-majority population, it had a significant Muslim minority. Integration: Resisted accession initially, seeking independence or alignment with Pakistan. Integrated into India in September 1948 through Operation Polo, a military action by the Indian Army after internal unrest and stalled negotiations.

- Junagadh: A coastal state in present-day Gujarat with a Muslim nawab but a Hindu-majority population. Integration: The nawab acceded to Pakistan in August 1947, but the decision was contested due to the Hindu majority and geographic isolation from Pakistan. Following a plebiscite and local uprising, Indian forces took control in November 1947, and it was integrated into India after a referendum in February 1948.

- Bhopal: A central Indian state (present-day Madhya Pradesh) with a Muslim nawab and a significant Muslim population. Integration: The Nawab of Bhopal signed the Instrument of Accession in August 1947, joining India after negotiations, influenced by pressure from the Indian government and the state’s Hindu majority.

- Rampur: A state in present-day Uttar Pradesh with a Muslim nawab and a Muslim-majority population. Integration: The Nawab acceded to India in 1949 after negotiations, with the state merging into the United Provinces (now Uttar Pradesh) under India’s integration efforts.

EDP tends to be more expensive than EDT because of its higher perfume oil content, which also means less frequent reapplication is needed.
