Heading back to Owensboro after a good day spent at #KATH2019. Thanks, @KyHistSoc, for hosting the event and inviting us to participate as an exhibitor!
We just spent one hour and 30 minutes in a very interesting, meandering conversation with a #KATH2019 attendee about Kentucky Catholic history, Thomas Merton, St. Patrick, Irish ancestors, and Magiffin County, Kentucky.
Another genealogy resource that @OboroArchives has made available is an interactive map of Catholic cemeteries in western Kentucky. We spent a year researching these cemeteries and plotting them on a Google map. #KATH2019

The day is off to a great start! Demo sessions, community partner talks, preservation station and coaches corner! The big reveals with @ReneeKET start @ 11 and 2 - be sure to stop by for great #Kentucky#genealogy fun!
We already had a good conversation with a member of the Louisville Genealogical Society about Catholic records. It turns out that this person graduated from Mount Saint Joseph Academy in the 1960s. #KATH2019
Just 15 minutes away from the start of Kentucky Ancestors Town Hall @KyHistSoc. Our table is set up with lots of information for researching Catholic ancestors, including women religious and Kentucky Catholics. #KATH2019
On Saturday, @KyHistSoc hosts Kentucky Ancestors Town Hall in Frankfort. Our own @HeidiTaylorCaud of @OboroArchives will have a table in the exhibit hall where genealogists & family historians can ask her questions about researching Catholic ancestors! https://t.co/s1DCRvQIfn
Alex has also been working this summer at the diocesan archives, digitizing early photos from the Western Kentucky Catholic. We wish her all the best and success in her future endeavors.
Our favorite quote from Lanny Wilson's article: "Working together with great love, through cultures of collaboration, we can help one another - whether accessing healthcare, feeding the poor, or restoring historic sites."
Every now and then, the editor of the Western Kentucky Catholic slips a copy of the latest St. Jerome Journal (St. Jerome Parish, Fancy Farm, KY) into our mailbox. We've enjoyed reading about the parish, its history, and stories about parishioners in this excellent publication.
The July 2019 issue includes news about the St. Jerome School & Museum, a story on St. Denis parishioners Jack & Rose Marie Ellegood Riggs, and a really wonderful article by Lanny Wilson about the Notre Dame Cathedral Fire & spending resources to restore historic buildings.

One of the fruits of our labor to collect, preserve, and share the history of the Catholic community in western Kentucky - work performed both here at the diocesan archives and the archives of the Ursuline Sisters of Mount Saint Joseph.
We recently wrote an article for the Spring 2019 newsletter of the Association of Catholic Diocesan Archivists about the development of the Fr. Volk concert & the many hands involved in making the event a success.
