That statement captures everything wrong with this administration.

A government that fears consultation fears accountability. A government that dismisses its citizens has forgotten where its authority comes from.

Kenyans are not subjects to be ordered around. They are the taxpayers who fund the Ministry of Health, the hospitals, the salaries of public officials, and every policy implemented in this country.

The arrogance of telling citizens that they do not deserve consultation is dangerous. Public health is not just about medicine; it is about public trust. When leaders stop listening, they create suspicion, resistance, and conflict.

If there is an epidemic, the solution is transparency, public participation, and honest communication not chest-thumping declarations that citizens will simply be told what to do.

The Constitution of Kenya did not create a government of masters and servants. It created a government that must listen to, engage, and respect the people.

No Cabinet Secretary should ever speak as though Kenyans are an inconvenience to be managed rather than citizens to be consulted.

The day public officials stop consulting the people is the day they start forgetting that power belongs to the people, not to them.

DRC has been battling repeated ebola outbreaks since 1976. Sometimes it spreads to Uganda which has experience of dealing with it. Suddenly, Kenya that has never had an Ebola case, says it has set up 23 centres, a country whose public healthcare has crumpled?

These countries border DRC in South Kivu where the current outbreak has been reported by the Western media and it is spreading fast.

In these two countries, the Banyamulenge cross freely between the DRC and these two countries.

The M23 rebels have complicated the epidemic by making the health systems in South Kivu dysfunctional.

In 1994, Rwanda had one of the most catastrophic human crises.

So, why are there no "Ebola cases" in these small countries?

Why can't America establish their quarantine centres in Rwanda or Burundi or Tanzania instead of Kenya?
