@rotyen@privateparks@PLPercussionist@___TheGOOdWitch Sure and I would even honour their pronouns and the whole thing. Because I'm a nice guy.
But I'm also a bit autistic and things like "objective truth" can be kind of a big deal for me.
So if pressed, i would still say "That's a woman who wants to live as a man".
@rotyen@privateparks@PLPercussionist@___TheGOOdWitch I mean .. it doesnt actually matter how well somebody passes.
Because that implies "there is a way to look like a man".
What? "Beard"? "Muscles" "Bare chest" "Tattoos"?
Is that what society says a man is?
So I guess if you dont have that stuff.. you dont qualify as a man?
@DrewyMcDrewface@Is_Not_Brian I do think that is a big factor. I think music tech and production also changed a lot over 40 years and every 5 years had a new sonic "stamp". But i genuinely miss bands having a signature "vocal fingerprint" made of band members doing backing vox.
@rotyen@privateparks@PLPercussionist@___TheGOOdWitch In the context of this question, i would say the middle 1 is a woman who has altered her body to resemble a male. aka "trans man".
But I would not say "Oh those are 3 of exactly the same kind of gender". There is something "gender-related" that is very different with 1 of them.
@rotyen@privateparks@PLPercussionist@___TheGOOdWitch >Are these people in the photo men or women?
Is there anything particulary different about 1 of them?
Does 1 of them differ significantly from the other 2?
And if so, how are they different?
@rotyen@privateparks@PLPercussionist@___TheGOOdWitch Does "age identity" exist?
You know - it's the age you identify with. It's the age you perform in society.
You might be biologically 40, but you perform the social role of a 25yr old, and you are actually 25.
So, does "age identity" exist?
@rotyen@privateparks@PLPercussionist@___TheGOOdWitch I also think it's bad to say anybody can be "born into the wrong body".
I also think it's limiting to teach kids that somehow today, in 2026, there is "a way society says women have to be".
I think that's silly, insulting, and regressive to teach kids.
@rotyen@privateparks@PLPercussionist@___TheGOOdWitch But by discussing it so much it pushes the kids to think about their position in it and "what they are", because those conversations will be all around.
Just like we could push kids to be obsessed with zodiac, if we wanted to, by focussing their attention there.
@DrewyMcDrewface@Is_Not_Brian Yes but this thing used to be a typical aspect of "pop music". When I say EWF or SD, im not saying there are no jazz/funk bands. I'm referencing the "band-ness" of having a group of musicians who are strong players and strong singers, making "pop songs".
Not a big ask, right?
@rotyen@privateparks@PLPercussionist@___TheGOOdWitch Sure but it's important how we talk about it.
I dont think it's healthy to teach kids "Everybody has a hidden feeling inside them they need to look for that tells them what gender they were supposed to be, and if they were born into the correct body or not"
@rotyen@privateparks@PLPercussionist@___TheGOOdWitch Gender is the thoughts people have about biological sex.
Just like we could say "alignment" is "how you think about morality". But it's not an actual characteristic you possess.
Although I'm sure we could write a bunch of books to make people think everybody has an alignment.
@DrewyMcDrewface@Is_Not_Brian Then when you add accomplished musicianship to a band with a unique vocal signature .. you have something really special.
@DrewyMcDrewface@Is_Not_Brian Van Halen was also defined by their bg vox sound. Same with Beach Boys, Bee Gees, The Eagles, The Band, ABBA, Chicago, etc etc etc.
The "vocal fingerprint" of all the different voices in the band was just as much a part of their sound as anything else.
@rotyen@privateparks@PLPercussionist@___TheGOOdWitch If a person grew up alone on a desert island, they would have no gender in your worldview, right?
(Since there would be no "society" or "roles".)
They'd be walking around, eating, sleeping, farting, hunting, etc .. without the quality of "gender". Yes?
@DrewyMcDrewface@Is_Not_Brian >I am absolutely positive I could find 50 great bands in about half as many minutes,
Despite me having this debate quite a lot with people who consider themselve to be music aficionados, people never seem to be able to name easy examples.
Which kind of proves my point.
Rockets: On The Road Again (1978). French space rockers Rockets give a cosmic twist to the Canned Heat classic.
I think it works. I don't know why, but it works.
