@ObviousElk@privateparks@PLPercussionist@___TheGOOdWitch You say “it doesn’t matter how well they pass”
I would actually argue that it does matter for some people, who have a hard time with using their preferred pronouns. A person like that will feel very awkward saying “she/her” to a person that very much looks acts like a “he”
@ObviousElk@privateparks@PLPercussionist@___TheGOOdWitch I’ve never argued that biological sex isn’t real. I’m saying that being a man isn’t only about reproductive biology. It’s also a social role and identity. The way people see you, interact, refer to you, and build relationships with you has real significance, which is why many peo
@ObviousElk@privateparks@PLPercussionist@___TheGOOdWitch You’re arguing against something I never said. Beards muscles don’t make a man. point is social perception isn’t same as biological classification. U couldn’t tell middle person’s biological sex from that photo, which is exactly why ppl distinguish those concepts in the first pl
@ObviousElk@privateparks@PLPercussionist@___TheGOOdWitch You could call him a trans man sure. But it’s more respectful and convenient to simply call him a man. What does it matter to you what is actually in his pants? You wanna check their private parts ?
@privateparks@ObviousElk@PLPercussionist@___TheGOOdWitch There you go. All 3 are men.
But the middle one was born with a vagina and still has one. He could theoretically get pregnant with the right hormone supplements.
This is why in the original post the doctor referred to “pregnant people”
@ObviousElk@privateparks@PLPercussionist@___TheGOOdWitch Even if people wanted to present younger than they are, that’s fine if they can pull it off nothing wrong…. But i do t think it has the same significance as gender. Are these people in the photo men or women?
@ObviousElk@privateparks@PLPercussionist@___TheGOOdWitch But some people do intentionally hide their biological age. And prefer to keep you guessing, while going to great lengths to look as young as possible. Nothing wrong with that.
@ObviousElk@privateparks@PLPercussionist@___TheGOOdWitch We already distinguish chronological age from how old someone acts, feels, or is perceived. The question isn’t whether categories can have social dimensions. It’s whether age and gender are analogous enough for the comparison to work.
@ObviousElk@privateparks@PLPercussionist@___TheGOOdWitch Sure, but now you’re arguing about style and emphasis, not whether gender identity exists. We can debate whether schools should do parades, glitter, dressup days, keep it more boring and factual. But that’s different from claiming the concept is fake or comparable to zodiac signs
@ObviousElk@privateparks@PLPercussionist@___TheGOOdWitch This has been true throughout human history. It’s not a new concept. It was ignored during some periods we tried to force gender into black and white boxes while in reality a spectrum still existed all along and will continue to exist.
@ObviousElk@privateparks@PLPercussionist@___TheGOOdWitch we shouldn’t teach stereotypes like “women have to be X.” that doesn’t refute gender identity. It means we should explain carefully. “Girls can be masculine, boys can be feminine, and some people experience gender dysphoria” its more precise than forcing everyone into rigid boxes
@ObviousElk@privateparks@PLPercussionist@___TheGOOdWitch You’re assuming gender identity is analogous to zodiac signs. We talk to kids about religion, nationality, personality, emotions, politics, careers, and relationships too. Discussing something doesn’t automatically mean we’re inventing it or encouraging obsession with it.
@ObviousElk@privateparks@PLPercussionist@___TheGOOdWitch You assume that transgender people are doing it for fashion, or for fun, or some sort of perverted gratification. (There is a small percentage that do - but that is microscopically tiny) vast majority of transgender people are trying to feel normal within their own bodies.
@ObviousElk@privateparks@PLPercussionist@___TheGOOdWitch That’s not really what most people are teaching. Recognizing that gender identity exists isn’t the same thing as telling every child they need to go searching for a hidden gender. Most people go through life identifying with their birth sex without giving it much thought.
@privateparks@PLPercussionist@___TheGOOdWitch Again that is YOUR definition. This line of reasoning is going nowhere with you because your brain cannot handle separating biological sex from gender. Are these men or women?
