The University of South Wales has axed its dance degree amid backlash from students and cultural figures, who have labelled the move “short-sighted” https://t.co/6dUe73TH9W
Solidarity and power to students and staff after the closure of @usw_dance programme - it is devastating to see the arts in higher education starved off like this #saveUSWdance
How long before before someone takes responsibility and realises the detriment this will have upon the arts sector?? The affects are not isolated to the institutions the courses are within. There will be significant gaps in the sector. Such a worrying time. @TheStage@guardian
Poor management seems to be a running theme with the exact same eradication of the course on platforms (such as the website pictured in the thread above). @OccupyGSA@GSATandP seems to have experienced the exact same issues. Solidarity to all under the course at USW #saveUSWdance
Although it's summer, we are continuing to fight to prevent course closures at the University of Surrey.

Uni of Surrey have decided to close the DMA programme. It is devastating for the department and indeed the arts at Surrey. A brilliant programme that does not deserve this - please sign this petition !!

3/3 It's great to assure people about the situation, but using 'oversubscribed' to describe courses, demeans ours in comparison. Although not false, it's a misuse of language/lack of consideration for people affected who have fought so much for Theatre and Performance. @The_GSA
2/3 We know other courses remain popular, as does ours. But unfortunately it wont be given the opportunity to thrive due to a rash decision. People want clarity about the two courses directly affected about the decision, rather than using it as an opportunity to promote GSA.
1/3 The quote in @TheStage from @The_GSA , yet again seems insensitive in light of events. When speaking about falling applicant numbers is it a necessary avenue to assure people that "The rest of our GSA courses remain oversubscribed". This isn't about the other courses at GSA.
Tune in at 9am to hear our interview with the @OccupyGSA movement. Hear what brought them to such drastic action at 9am and throughout the day.
