New paper by the World’s most prominent climate scientists shows rapid acceleration of human-caused warming, with a warming rate now that tracks to near 2.4°C by 2050, far faster than was expected, if it continues.
From paper: “We are witnessing the rapid destabilization of the Earth’s climate system. This is no longer a warning for the future; it is a diagnosis of the present. Earth’s life-support systems are being pushed beyond stable limits, with changes unfolding faster than our ability to respond. Human activities are driving profound shifts in the atmosphere, oceans, and biosphere.”

The deep sea is still 99% unknown to humans
And NOAA Fisheries Service researchers just identified nine new deep sea sponges!
One identified species is so unique they had to create a new genus for it

Satellite data reveal massive scale of routine oil pollution in oceans
Oil slicks from ships and offshore oil platforms cover nearly 1.6 million square kilometers (618,000 square miles) of the ocean surface each year, an area slightly larger than the nation of Mongolia.

"Deforestation is not development. It is self-sabotage on a planetary scale."
Every forest cleared for short-term profit steals long-term security from future generations. True progress protects nature; it doesn't erase it.
@Speaking4Trees@giveashitnature Try this cool thing - it tells you how tall/wide the native plants will get a maturity so you can figure out what will work with your town's regs

I’d agree here. We’ve seen a lot of deviant weather/ climate behavior over the past few years. But my honest assessment is: this El Niño is by far the most extreme outlier. If we are being honest, a year ago, could any climate/ weather expert legitimately say that they could conceive of an El Niño so far outside the distribution? I’m genuinely curious? Anyone? Bueller??Because I’ve become accustomed to now “expect the unexpected”. But for this I apparently need to adjust my expectations wayyyyy upward.
