Email phishing is a cyberattack where a hacker targets emails to gain sensitive information. The hacker often performs this by posing as a trusted source or business.

Use these tips to stay safe online.

1) Never respond to requests for personal information sent via email. Businesses will never ask for personal information in an email.

2) Do not click on any links listed in an email message. Copy and paste the URL into your browser.

3) Use anti-virus and anti-spyware software and update it regularly.

4) Mark phishing emails as spam in Gmail or with your email provider so that future messages are identified as spam for you.

5) For attachments, contact the sender to verify the legitimacy and check the online scanner to ensure it's free from malware.
