I get the complaint that it's at the end of the game and to end it like that sucks, but a foul is a foul whether it's in the 20th or the 120th minute. You can't pick and choose based on the time of the game.
So nobody asked me for this, but here goes - I think it was the right call.
The defender clips Tieleman's leg as he is planting it, preventing him from even making an attempt at a shot. The contact on the leg is just enough to throw anyone off when you're expecting to plant it.
🚨 Roy Keane on Belgium being awarded a penalty after Youri Tielemans went down in the second half of extra time:
🗣️ “That's a disgrace. Absolutely shocking officiating. I honestly don't know what the referee has seen there to give a penalty.”
“Tielemans hadn't even won the ball. There was the slightest bit of contact, but that's football. If we're giving penalties for incidents like that, defenders may as well stop tackling altogether.”
“These are the moments that ruin big matches. You've got two teams battling for over 120 minutes, and then the game is potentially decided by one incredibly soft decision. It's not good enough at this level. The referee has got that completely wrong, and I don't think VAR has covered itself in glory either.”
William Dandjinou, after leading for most of the 1000m mens short track final, finished 4th. Really tough finish, after a tiny slip on the 2nd last lap. He had it.
