Bankrolls, wins, losses & the real cost of gambling
Current Stats: Bankroll: $3,463 • Win/Loss YTD: -$3,786
I like casinos.
I like the rituals, the people, the strange little differences from one place to the next. The coffee shops, the bars, the dealers who have been there forever, the games you don’t see everywhere else. And I like that there are hundreds of interesting ones most people will never bother to see.
Gambling is the bad idea that makes the trip better. It gets you on the plane, into the weird town, a hundred miles off course, too many drinks deep, and ready to see what happens.
That’s what I want to explore here.
Las Vegas, absolutely. But also the locals joints, tribal casinos, riverboats, regional properties, old places, new places, and whatever else is worth the drive, flight, or detour. There are interesting casinos scattered all over the country, and plenty more around the world.
I’m not interested in turning that into work. I don’t have the time or patience to grind out an edge. I’m here to drink, laugh, play, wander around, meet people, and experience life.
This is a hobby. And like any good hobby, art, golf, a country club, whatever your poison, it can get expensive.
So I want to be real about that part too: the bankroll, the wins, the losses, the nights that went sideways, and what all of this actually costs. Not to take the fun out of gambling, but to help keep it fun.
I picked this photo because it feels like the right place to start. That cluster in the distance is Las Vegas, seen from Mt. Charleston, about 45 minutes from the Strip and I’d bet 99% of Vegas visitors never make it up there. It's incredible.
There’s a lot more out there than the obvious stuff.
Let’s go find it.
@VinnyChenz7out@TheBettorLife I don’t think the concept is wierd. I think of it as, if I can blow money on myself, I can blow money on my family too. I enjoy both.
I do have Gamblers Insurance though. That’s where when I have a winning trip, I give wifey half for shoe money.
@PATRICK84904305@rushicrypto Carvana was an awful experience for me. Never again. Would rather suffer at a dealership. Next car is a rivian, so I avoided both nuisances.
Buffets. A wide selection of OKish food priced to the point I have to eat so much I feel bad makes no sense.
Steak houses. I am not a talented cook, but can cook as good as a steak as any of them. Their sides are way better than I can cook, but $$$$ for starch and veg is nuts. So many better options.
White Castle. Pure poison. Literally what’s wrong with food in this country.
@VitalVegas Man, wish I was going to be there. He came to Georgia Tech while I was there in the late 90s. Awesome time. Would love to support him. I’ll be out there 10/3-10/7 get better sooner Mr Top!! 😀
