i'll spoil the ending for you, if you can do this:

Yeah, its hard.. but you have to get it done.

1. Dont contribute to retirement yet.
2. Every month pay the minimum, then a second PRINCIPLE ONLY payment (as much as possible, make sure to call and ask how to make sure your payment applies to principle only.)
3. Rice and Beans. (no eating out)
4. Dont have a car payment (yes drive a shitbag car for a while)

Payoff with $850 + $850 principal-only each month
The first $850 is applied normally (interest first, then principal).
The second $850 is applied entirely to principal.
Using standard monthly compounding at 6.8%/12:
The loan is paid off in 54 months (exactly 4.5 years).
Total interest paid is approximately $12,600.
Total amount paid is roughly $90,600.
This is dramatically faster than the ~10.8 years and ~$32,400 in interest that would result from paying only the $850 minimum.

if you can figure out how to just make an extra payment every month (room mate, live with dad, something) you can get it done.
