Exploring Tafsir al-Tabari and Tadabbur-e-Quran with Shaykh Akram Nadwi

Join us this Saturday, 25 April, for Seminar 3 of the Timeless Tafsir series. Shaykh Akram Nadwi will explore al-Tabari's Jami al-Bayan 'an Ta'wil Ay al-Quran alongside Amin Ahsan Islahi's Tadabbur-e-Quran, presenting two distinct approaches to Qur'anic interpretation.

Through selected passages, this seminar will examine al-Tabari's tafsir methodology and the holistic, coherence-based approach of the Farahi-Islahi school, showing how each can deepen and structure our understanding of the Qur'an.

Timeless Tafsir is a four-day seminar series designed primarily for students of the Qur’an Study Programme, though it is also open to external participants. The series offers a gateway into the rich tradition of Qur’anic interpretation, guiding participants through six of the most influential tafsirs in Islamic history.

From the classical authorities of al-Tabari, al-Zamakhshari, and al-Razi, to the later voices of Ibn Ashur, al-Alusi, and Islahi, each seminar provides both depth and context. The series concludes with a final session on the Qur’an as a living source, including a guided overview of key commentators and an exclusive preview of Shaykh Akram’s forthcoming tafsir work.
