🇬🇭We have caught one South African he doesn’t even have a Ghana card and he’s working here
-A group of Ghanaians reportedly confronted the South African national in Ghana and threatened to seize his goods, amid reported tensions linked to xenophobic attacks against foreigners in South Africa.
I agree with you
But I will always question the motive behind the announcement, I mean the timing is so wrong, we’ve built a good squad over the past few years
I think this was done to unsettle SA Rugby, This is NZ we are talking about not just any country, I mean our biggest rivalry, He should go now
It was always going to be tough to keep Tony Brown in South Africa beyond the Rugby World Cup.
Think everyone accepted that. Can't blame him for wanting to coach his own country.
Announcing it now can be seen as a power move from New Zealand Rugby, but it also means that it's out now, confirmed, and everyone can get on with everything else.
SA Rugby want to sort Rassie's assistants out for 2031, and if they confirmed the rest and not Brown, it was always going to be obvious.
Got to feel for Mike Blair though; he hasn't even overseen a Test match, and his replacement has been hired.
A two-year contract for Brown is a bit odd though. Would think you'd want him there for the entire RWC cycle.
Can anyone cite another instance in any sport in which a coach signed and announced for the main rivals of his current team two years out and continued as coach for the intervening two years?
Honest question — none come to mind
Tony Brown: “Right now, I am fully committed to the #Springboks. What we are building and trying to achieve as a team over the next two years is my only focus” - more here: https://t.co/HNk2Fe7Cn6 🫡

My thoughts on this announcement.
First off, one needs to remember there is NEW management in at NZ Rugby and as a result they are obviously going to go after who they want.
There is clearly a plan. If Dave Rennie doesn't deliver in RWC 2027 then this may also be part of a bigger vision.
Boks supporters are likely to be dirty about this announcement being made now given Tony's position within the Springboks camp. I am sure that Rassie and Tony will have this well and truly under control.
Rather than being a distraction, there is a ton of rugby happening in the next 6 months of this year.
I would also maybe add that a lot of things can happen between now and 2028 in the world of rugby.

The loss of Tony Brown could send Springboks rugby back to the stone ages. Since his arrival in 2024 they have won 24 Tests, only losing 4. Never before had they won a real Rugby Championship, and they immediately went back-to-back. Erasmus has been a sub-60 percent guy without him. They used to push the ‘DNA’ of South African rugby as the box kick. Brown transformed them into a team that could actually score 40 points regularly. He could go down as the man who saved the world from kick, pray & hope rugby. The loss of Brown will ultimately hurt Sacha F-M. They found a real No.10 who has world’s best written all over him. And it might all come undone as the New Zealand IP leaves the door with Brown. Sacha could watching his No.9 hammer the night sky 45 times a game in 2028.
There is no ways that Rassie can entrust Tony with his RWC27 plan any longer. The stakes are too high. Tony will now work on the periphery of Bok rugby until his contract runs out. In simple terms, if a director of Apple signs for Samsung, that director wont be allowed back in the office the next day, that's just the way of the commercial world. Rugby is commercial. As for Tony, he has done what's best for Tony, everyone always new that his first choice job was the AB coaching job, so no issue there, I wish him well. And to NZ rugby executives, well played. 'All is fair in love and war' - 1579 by English poet John Lyly in his novel Euphues: where he wrote, "The rules of fair play do not apply in love and war".
So Tony Brown is heading to the All Blacks after 2027. I think most of us suspected that was always likely, despite him saying he wasn’t going anywhere.
Do you keep him through the World Cup knowing he’ll be joining your biggest rival afterwards?
It also makes me wonder whether we’ll hear an announcement about Jacques Nienaber rejoining the Springboks after the World Cup. With another cycle complete and likely law changes coming into the game, Rassie may already be planning the next evolution of the Bok game plan.
Thank you President @CyrilRamaphosa, Patriots let’s not take the law into our hands, let’s allow government to deal with this matter. The GNU is serious and there is no turning back, it’s time to go home dear people 🤛
