I’ve had The Art of the Novel on my shelf for over a decade now. I’ll read it now in his memory. You know a writer has joined the pantheon when the title of any of his/her books acquires proverbial significance: “unbearable lightness of being,” “laughter and forgetting.”
Milan Kundera was one of the authors with whom I began my induction into writing. His The Book of Laughter and Forgetting and The Unbearable Lightness of Being made a lasting impression on me with the singular distinctiveness of their titles and narrative styles.
