The Auditor General’s report for 2025 is out. The audit service reports that irregularities have shot up by over 250% in 2025 as compared to 2024 for MDAs alone. It is important that we pay detailed attention and answer why things are getting worse.

While the report shows a significant increase in irregularities for 2025, the figure is largely driven by tax debts owed by state institutions as of the 2024 tax assessment year.

According to the report, 10 state institutions collectively owed over 3 billion cedis in taxes and that drove irregularities from 2.1 billion in 2024 to 5.3 billion in 2025. ECG alone owed 1.7 billion cedis.

Perhaps Hon, who was part of government, can help us explain why these large state institutions failed to pay the taxes due the government.
