The bullpen falls apart again.
This is why Carmen Mlodzinski should not have been used last night in a one sided game
You knew Jones was on a pre-planned pitch count BUT he did look strong when he got thru 6. Fairly easily.
The Pirates TV post-game did an entire first segment and they didn’t address the issue of pulling Jared Jones. With a perfect game. Something that never happened for the first 150 years of baseball. But it happened tonight.
Even if you support the decision. Tell us why.
I don’t get it.
Karma. This is what the baseball gods do when you take a guy out of a perfect game. And your struggling former closer gives up an 0-2 homer to your old backup catcher. Terrible.
Pirates take their starter out during a perfect game at just 75 pitches, almost immediately lose the perfect game & then have a former catcher who they inexplicably dumped in favor of a worse player crush a homer to likely win the game for Atlanta.
Woof.
Jared Jones is the only starting pitcher in MLB's modern era to pitch at least 6.0 innings and retire every batter he faced during his entire outing and yet not get the win.
There are already Pirates fans calling @937theFan ready to bitch about the game, per @CharlieBorgesJr. A game that is not yet over. It’s the 8th inning at PNC Park.
For the second time today, the Pirates have the bases loaded and no one out. And don't score.
Not often does a team walk 6-of-7 like the Reds did and get away with it.
P.S. Don Kelly also could've pinch-hit for Henry Davis - a .118 hitter vs. LHP - to try to capitalize on the prime run-scoring opportunity to try to blow the game open. But instead, he popped up.
What a terrible call. Interference after the runner is well past the play. The pirates don't need screwed by bad officials they screw up enough themselves. @DonChed54
