Some facts about NCHDs and Training - thread..
1 All doctors complete an undergraduate medical degree which takes 4-6 years, paying same costs as all other college students. They are then qualified as a Doctor.
@baoigheallain Maybe to do with stricter driving license standards, eg french diver have to be able to parallel park to get behind the wheel, no tolerance for people without a driving license driving unnacompanied, 20 hours supervised driving with instructor, accompanied driving logbook etc
@DrRebeccaSutton@DocCSarah@drphiliplee1 Every doctor should be trained in basic ultrasound use and a machine should be available on every ward.
Simple solutions
Hospitals should have to publicly post their staffing ratios in each unit. Every day. The true ratio.
Would you go to a hospital whose ICU ratio is 1 nurse to 4 critically ill patients? To an ER where the nurses each have 8, 9, or 10 patients?
@suim1234@niamh_dr@drivetimerte@HSELive If you want to recruit, you advertise a job - nobody even applies,
Then you need to improve your ad whether it's salary, working conditions or both
Saying you felt your original ad was good enough won't recruit anyone
That's in an office, a shop, an airport or a hospital
We keep hearing how our healthcare system is collapsing (which it is). But that does nothing to improve our understanding.
Let’s use a hypothetical emergency department visit to highlight the disaster that is happening every day around the country.
Here’s a thread 🧵:
@dublincomments@oollaayy@HSELive@health_irish It's important to note that if unable to recruit staff (often no applicants to many NCHD and Consultant positions advertised), considering offering less money definitely is not a viable strategy
@PeterCGrimes @Iswick123 @DrRobertFerris1 At least half of Irish doctors who trained here were charged approx. 60k by UCD, RCSI, UL and UCC. Most obtained a loan with 6.5% over 14 years. what's this you say about Irish state funding and free education?
@molzer13@cihalpin A lot of hospitals don't have digital prescriptions so this would involve scanning the handwritten prescription (if there is a working scanner) into an email ( often a personal one - a GDPR breach) and then phoning the pharmacy to get their email address
