📍 #Abuja, #Nigeria | The 2nd African Union Knowledge Management, Institutional Capacity-Building & Experience-Sharing Meeting on #AUPeaceMissions kicked off in #Abuja 🇳🇬(25–27 Aug. 2026), bringing together strategic, operational & technical experts, to document #AU practice and strengthen the effectiveness, sustainability & inclusivity of #AUPeaceMissions.
Facilitated by the @AUC_PAPS and supported by the @AfDB_Group, the three-day workshop, continues the discussions from the #Nairobi Workshop on strengthening #AUPeaceMissions through knowledge management, institutional capacity-building & cross-mission experience-sharing.

The workshop creates a platform for peer exchange, mutual learning, and experience-sharing on #AUPeaceMissions, with a specific focus on AU-MVCM, @aussom_ and @MNJTF Official. It further seeks to reinforce the #AU’s institutional knowledge management, operational effectiveness, sustainability, and inclusivity by examining different mission experiences, identifying common challenges, good practices, and exploring areas for improvement. Key areas include mission mandate design, Women, Peace and Security, sustainable financing, adaptive mandate implementation, performance management, compliance & accountability, institutional learning, AI and digital innovation, mission transitions and exit planning, protection of civilians, community engagement, and humanitarian assistance.

In his opening remarks, Commissioner @Bankole_Adeoye, @AUC_PAPS, delivered by his Special Assistant, Mr. Kaston Adeniyi Ojomo, highlighted the imperative for stronger partnerships and effective knowledge management as an essential tool for sustainable #AU Peace Missions.

The Representative of the #AfDB reaffirmed its commitment to #AU partnership and African-led solutions, highlighting the workshop’s role in strengthening crisis prevention, early warning, institutional capacity, and decision-making for more effective peace missions.
Ms. Mayah Ngalla, representing Col. Sheku Tejan Sesay, Coordinator of the AU-MVCM and Acting Coordinator of the Silencing the Guns Unit, highlighted lessons from #AUPeaceMissions and the #MNJTF, underscoring that effective peace operations depend on integrated approaches, regional ownership, and strong African partnerships. 🧵 1/

#Kampala, 🇺🇬: Ahead of the 2nd Extraordinary Summit of @aussom_ #TCCs Heads of State and Gov’t, scheduled for 31 July 2026 in #Kampala, the AU Peace Support Operations Division , @AUC_PAPS, led by Gen. Cheick Dembele, convened a meeting at which three strategic options for the future of the #AU’s presence in #Somalia were presented, pursuant to the #PSC’s 1317th Communiqué of 15 Dec 2025 and Assembly Decision 978 of Feb 2026.

Chaired by the Chief of Defence Forces of the #Uganda People’s Defence Forces and Sr. Presidential Adviser for Special Operations, Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba, the meeting brought together representatives of the Federal Government of #Somalia, #AUSSOM TCCs, and #PSOD officials.
