President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah left for Lusaka, Zambia, this morning to attend the inauguration of President Hakainde Hichilema.

The inauguration is expected to bring together SADC and other African leaders, as well as international dignitaries.

President Netumbo Nandi‑Ndaitwah has departed for Luanda, Angola, to attend the African Union extraordinary summit on peace and security.

The summit brings together African leaders to discuss ways of preventing and resolving conflicts through dialogue and diplomacy. Its main theme is "Strengthening Mechanisms for Conflict Prevention and Resolution in Africa".

Press Secretary Jonas Mbambo said ongoing conflicts in countries such as the Democratic Republic of Congo and Sudan highlight the need for stronger conflict‑resolution mechanisms on the continent.

Mbambo added that Namibia, despite gaining independence through an armed struggle, remains a strong advocate for diplomacy, noting the country exhausted diplomatic efforts with apartheid South Africa before taking up arms.

The summit is expected to focus on strengthening African‑led efforts to prevent conflicts and promote lasting peace across the continent.
