You could be helping someone find an opportunity.
Let me encourage someone.
After school, I wanted Finance. I imagined myself in management consulting and investment banking, working at firms like McKinsey & Company, Boston Consulting Group (BCG), Bain & Company, J.P. Morgan and the likes.
It never happened.
Then I went for NYSC and ended up in an accounting and audit firm, something I honestly never wanted to do.
I attended seminars, took trainings, learned new skills, went for several interviews, and still got rejected.
At some point, I thought maybe Tax was the path for me. I tried that too.
But I never stopped learning.
Today, I’ve worked on financial models for M&A and capital restructuring, supported fundraising of about ₦4bn, and worked on ERP implementation for upstream oil & gas, fintech and other businesses, all while Audit remained my core day-to-day career.
Funny enough, I’ve made more money from some of these skills than I have from the career I originally thought was my path.
So, if you’re unsure about your area of specialisation, don’t panic.
Your first career path may not be your final destination.
Keep learning. Keep trying. Keep building skills around the problems you enjoy solving.
Sometimes, the path you never planned for is the one that eventually opens the right doors.
some people are currently unemployed because they don't want to crawl before walking.
there are some offers you have to take for a short term to put you into positions you think you deserve.
