@zebulousprime Focus on the planter. I've had pretty good luck (except extreme pop or down corn) picking twin row corn with a standard 30" head. My goal for twins is centered on 60" or 90", with a max of 10" twin spacing. I refer to the rows as 10-50" for 60" Twins, and 10-80" for 90" Twins.
Folks, today, Friday, 16 Dec 2022, I’m having a public Zoom meeting at 3:00 pm US Central time to share my 2022 season wide row corn plots results. Feel free to join in. Here is the link. Full disclosure: These are Advanced Tests, for learning.

@zebulousprime Zac, This is awesome. Thanks for the work, it was not trivial! I'm playing with the numbers in a spreadsheet. Your point in the commentary is well taken-60" rows are "close." 90" twins require real value from the Opportunity Space.
@zebulousprime Zack, this is a good thing you are doing. The value in what you are doing is in the livestock in the “Opportunity Space” between the corn strips. Your yield number is very credible for 4 row corn strips. Keep up the good work!
We had a nice little field event on 30 Sep 22 in Waterloo, IA. Reviewed 81 ears of corn in 30”, 60” single, and 90” twin rows. The performance of the 60” single row was a disaster: a loss of 28% vs. the 30” baseline. The 90" Twin Row was only 8% less than 30" baseline-a delight.
@PfanstielJunior@PetersenFarms@DawnEquipment Junior be careful going “cold turkey” organic from high input conventional farming. I did that on a plot; great cover crop and soil building, but a corn yield disaster. Consider a year or two of organic “fallow” with heavy nitrogen fixing cc and other N sources. The corn wants N!
@PfanstielJunior IF this year is NOT a failure, I hope to have a legitimate variety test in a real field. Next season. This year is to screen row and plant arrangements. Need to go plant some corn now. Don’t surrender-reload!
@60inCornFarmer Eric, This is Bob Recker; I'd like to come visit your 60" Twin Row plots before harvest starts. If this is possible, please e-mail me at [email protected] Thanks! Bob Recker
