@w3stw3stw3st@Bialynian@ufcolin In 2008–09, soccer’s Law 12 was modified by removing the wording about contacting the opponent before the ball and made the standard explicitly whether the tackle was careless, reckless, or used excessive force.
Getting “ball first” is not an automatic defense against a foul.
@ChiFireSocTalk Seem to recall commentary (and articles?) about how the Fire’s second half of the season was against ‘tougher competition’.
Add to that the variety of injuries and it seems like we have been playing without a consistent XI.
So those numbers seem about what I’d have expected.
@sing_electric It’s really is a simple concept, but every game (attended or watched on a screen) I hear people parroting ‘but they got the ball first’.
Of course there are 50/50 challenges where impacts happen, but most are not 50/50 and respect for safety should be essence in the game.

@SkywayWilly@sing_electric I get the GGG rational deciding on LB.
Gutman mature LB, not ‘fast’ & better on the attack than tracking.
Barroso immature, fast enough to track Sullivan…but not a ‘brawler’.
Allen is ‘bulldog’ like Sullivan…and should be a better brawler matchup.
Sat we want Gutman against NER
@w3stw3stw3st@Bialynian@ufcolin Damn, I disagree with that too!
F! acting whiners!!!
Oh wait, unless you meant he reacted commensurate with the pain…didn’t read that.

@w3stw3stw3st@Bialynian@ufcolin Foul, not a card…the only reason he landed in his foot is because he flicked the ball away.
Playing the ball and not reckless.
@w3stw3stw3st@Bialynian@ufcolin Of course there is 'tight & loose' enforcement rules, but inconsistency on top of 'letting the boys play'...stupid frustrating...Mbo picked up a YC for less than what was occuring all over the field(most not called), and it took 85min and a mugging for PHI to get a card. SMH
@w3stw3stw3st@Bialynian@ufcolin I brought a casual fan to the game & at half time (up1-0) he said to me
‘This is ugly, the ref is not being fair, and it is just not fun to watch. LET ME KNOW WHEN YOU WOULD BE WILLING IT LEAVE’.
I made him stay to the 80th and it was the first Fire game I ever left early.
@w3stw3stw3st@Bialynian@ufcolin And to GGG’s point, that ‘style’ being allowed by the ref interrupts the flow of the game, increases risk injury, and is simply ugly soccer.
@w3stw3stw3st Agreed! It was a foul! Not a YC, because he didn’t have to go through the player to play the ball…unlike the PHI CB taking Lewy out from behind
@w3stw3stw3st The rule does not include ‘got ball first’.
He was playing the ball and the Union play got to it before him, so Mbo got foot.
No where near as bad as the CB sliding through Lewy from behind…getting ball or not
