I had legislation to mandate that health plans cover the cost of all FDA approved colorectal cancer screenings - the same exact requirement as Medi-Care.
Guess what? @CAgovernor@GavinNewsom vetoed the bill.
We have blood screenings that would save countless lives because the reality is… 30/40 year olds are not getting probed.
My friend was just barely 40 when he almost died. No one believed he had cancer, including his doc. By the time they recommended a colonoscopy, he was stage 3. Nearly died. Then the chemo almost killed him.
Thank God, this father with young children survived and just celebrated his 50th birthday. World is a much better place with him. But there is no doubt in my mind that my legislation would (1) save lives and (2) save healthcare costs and prevent costly advanced cancer treatments.
We could have had it. But Newsom vetoed the bill.
On this day, July 16th 1969, we were “GO” for launch – and at precisely 13:32 UTC, #Apollo11 lifted off from @NASAKennedy to transport three mortal Americans – Neil Armstrong, Michael Collins and myself – to the Moon. The hard work, dedication and focus across the entire @NASA enterprise came down to this – even though it was only the beginning of our journey. But as Walter Cronkite remarked at the time, “The dawn of this day heralded the dawning of a new age. It’s a time of exhilaration, reflection, hope, fulfillment – as a centuries’ old dream starts toward reality.”
Thank you @WhiteHouse for recognizing #ColorectalCancerAwarenessMonth & highlighting the importance of early detection. Together, we can work to ensure all Americans have access to innovative screening options like Shield™ to help detect cancer earlier, when it’s most treatable.
Early screening can prevent colorectal cancer. Ask your health care provider which screening method is right for you.

"Funding for the task force has remained stagnant, however, which means it lacks the resources to make its evaluations in a timely manner. ... In fact, House Republicans have tried in their budgets to eliminate entirely the government arm that supports the task force."

Not a subject I normally write about, but something I was surprised to learn and think is hugely important for more people to know. I hope you do too: https://t.co/Kt91U1qoJP
The urgent need for new #ColorectalCancer screening options is highlighted in a recent article by @DrLen for @HCInnovationGrp. As we work towards improved patient outcomes and accessibility, it is essential to explore innovative approaches.
The FDA has approved the Shield blood test as a primary screening option for colorectal cancer, providing patients with more choices for screening.
Here is our response. 🧵
We’re changing the game for #ColorectalCancer screening w/ the FDA approval of Shield, our blood test for people age 45+ at average risk. With Shield, we aim to get more people tested & catch more cancers early, when they’re most treatable.
