Another gay PostMo. This is my profile to vent what little angst I have for Mormonism & call out the occasional BS from Mormons (they're mostly good people).
@LukeFHan I'd take an apology for the disgusting "conversion therapy" that happened at BYU while he was president there & his more recent trying to sweep it under the rug. ๐ค
@melonakos@stackerco Prophets are mortal men.
If mortal men today can acknowledge today that lying to your wife and marrying teenage girls behind her back is wrong, and other mortal men in Joseph's day could, why couldn't Joseph?
@stackerco Can you? Sure.
Does it make sense? No.
There's zero reason that an omnipotent god couldn't communicate to ancient Israel that slavery was wrong or to Joseph Smith that using his religious authority to manipulate teenage girls into secret relationships with him was wrong.
@stackerco I had my first drink within months of being done with the church. Now I drink socially, have never gotten drunk, and don't intend to.
A month or two ago, I had a Starbucks something or other my sister bought me, but it didn't make me want any more & I don't want a dependency.
@RigdonNancy3@LDSFarmer And why does forcing polygamy merit an angel with a sword while the priesthood ban was allowed to sit unchallenged for so long?
I'm sure any of the prophets would've dropped the racist ban if an angel with a sword had been sent to correct it.
@pimomormon Either the BoM is true and Mormon is someoneโs name that canโt be copy-written, or the BoM is fiction and Mormon would have already entered the public domain.
All that the LDS is doing is calling more attention to Mormon Stories.
@stackerco No hypocrisy here; it's a logical extension. The Brethren don't even want people thinking the church is the church (shell companies) so they ABSOLUTELY don't want people thinking anyone else is the church either. Ideally, no one will think anything is the church.
@stackerco@nicoraytruth Useful โ true or factual. That's the counter argument. Racism may be useful in certain contexts, that doesn't mean racist beliefs are true or factual.
@stackerco I stayed. It's been over a year now & I've found new community. Sure Utah's predominantly Mormon, but less than it used to be, especially around SLC. My family, career, & all that I love about the mountains is here. The visibility of my former faith is not reason enough to leave.
@StallionCornell @countjor @MormonDisc What rate of reliability should one expect from a Mormon prophet vs from an average honest man?
Should the words of a Mormon prophet be more reliable than those of other men? If yes, then by how much? If no, then what's the point of a prophet?
Loss of agency is a straw man.
In case you hadn't heard, the apostles had a "relevatory" experience directing them to put "Dallas Harris Oaks" in as the president of the church. ๐
